Ghana Gears Up for BECE as Over 620,000 Candidates Prepare to Sit Exams

The Ghana Education Service has outlined key updates ahead of this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination, with a strong focus on discipline and credibility.

Speaking at a press briefing, the Director General of GES, Ernest Kofi Davis, made it clear that individuals previously linked to examination malpractice will not be allowed to participate in any aspect of the exams. Teachers and supervisors who are currently facing sanctions have been barred from entering examination centers or taking part in the process in any form.

This decision appears to be part of a broader effort to protect the integrity of the examination system and ensure fairness for all candidates.

This year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination will see a large number of students across the country taking part. In total, 620,141 candidates are expected to sit for the exams. Out of this number, 304,349 are boys while 315,792 are girls. The candidates are drawn from 20,395 schools nationwide, highlighting the scale and importance of the exercise.

The message from GES is straightforward. Examination malpractice will not be tolerated, and strict measures are in place to deal with anyone who compromises the system. By removing individuals previously involved in such issues, the service is sending a signal that accountability remains a priority.

As the exams draw closer, attention now shifts to the candidates who are preparing to take this important step in their academic journey. For many students, the BECE represents a crucial turning point, and expectations are high for a smooth and credible process this year.
